Producing just 2,000 cases annually, we believe that “keeping it small” is essential to the success of our wines. Minimal intervention is practiced from crush to bottle. Harvest occurs in small lots, gently steering each young wine through fermentation. Pumping of the wine is kept to a minimum, and gravity is used whenever possible to transfer wine into barrel. We use minimal sulfites and steadfastly avoid unnecessary processing. Our mission is to produce small-quantity, elegant and flavorful wines of exceptional quality.

We are pleased to welcome visitors to our charming tasting room. Inside, you will be greeted with wonderful hospitality, complimentary wine tasting, and a wine-themed gift shop. We offer a wide selection of locally-grown varietals perfectly suited to our mountainous terrior. Visit us Friday-Sunday or by appointment. Tours and private barrel tastings are available with advance notice.

One of the wine world’s best kept secrets lies deep in the heart of El Dorado County in the Sierra Foothills. Within an hour’s drive from Sacramento, you will find over 25 family-owned boutique wineries taking pride in their land, wines, and community. Since becoming a registered American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 2001, FAIR PLAY has developed a reputation for high quality wine grapes that yield deeply flavorful, intense wines from an amazingly diverse range of grape varieties.

Our own ESTATE VINEYARD consists of 15 acres of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Viognier, and Mourvedre. Our acclaimed, awarding-winning Zinfandel vineyard is exclusively dry-farmed, meaning we apply no water to the vines other than what mother nature provides. Dry-farming rewards us with intense and concentrated flavors, which makes our Zinfandel stand out from the rest. In addition to dry-farming the Zin, we practice deficit water management on the rest of the vineyard. This means we provide the vines with only enough water to ripen the fruit, resulting in superior crop quality and full-bodied and flavorful wines.
